You're hopeful.
It's taken some effort to get to where you are, finally ready to begin EMDR therapy. You're invested and committed to the work.
And then, doubt creeps in:
What if it doesn't work for me?
That can feel really lonely. Like something is particularly wrong or different about you that would prevent EMDR from being effective.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Change is hard and can activate parts of you that are afraid to give up old ways of thinking and doing. This can make the process feel like "it isn't working," but is a normal, anticipated, and workable aspect of the process
- Trust is key - the therapeutic alliance is a foundational part of the efficacy of treatment
- Not everyone is a great candidate for reprocessing but that doesn't mean you can't be helped
You have options. The process isn't linear. We can talk about the right fit for you.
